England captain Harry Kane wants season scrapped if not completed soon

England and Tottenham Hotspur captain Harry Kane has been called for the league season to be scrapped if it cannot be completed by June.

The leading English footballing figure makes the comments as the English Premier League and leagues across Europe currently lie suspended due to the global health crisis.

Tottenham currently sit in 8th place in the Premier League following a disappointing campaign with Kane out injured since picking up a hamstring knock against Southampton on New Year’s Day.

“I know the Premier League will do everything they can to finish the season and that they are looking at every option possible,” Kane said [Guardian].

“We do need to try to finish the season but there needs to be a point where enough’s enough. Playing into July or August and pushing next season back, I don’t see too much benefit in that.

“Probably the limit for me is the end of June. If the season’s not completed by then we need to look at the options and just look forward to next season.”

Whilst Kane doesn’t suggest any solutions to the league title, European spaces and the relegation debates, the England captain is clear that he does not support carrying this season into the next.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin suggested that would be one possibility as he admitted if the league isn’t restarted by June is would “probably be lost” [La Repubblica].

However, the European football governing body won’t be responsible for deciding what happens with title awards and relegations in each country.

UEFA vice-president Michele Uva has explained that it will be the responsibility of each domestic association [Scottish Sun] to decide what happens in their respective league campaigns.

Rangers are adamant that if the season is not completed then awarding titles early brings into question the sporting integrity of the national game.
