The former PSV, Zenit and Sunderland coach even managed his country the Netherlands on three separate occasions.

Advocaat spent three years in charge of Rangers between 1998 and 2001 and brought with him a plethora of Dutch talent who’d go on to cement themselves in Ibrox history.

Arthur Numan, Ronald de Boer and Fernando Ricksen – amongst many other big names – all followed Advocaat to Scotland where he spent three and a bit seasons in charge.

Dick won five major trophies at Ibrox, including two Scottish Premier Leagues, but later defeated Rangers in the UEFA Cup Final of 2008 whilst in charge of Zenit St Petersburg.

Now manager of Feyenoord, Advocaat took to the touchline for the final time as the Eredivisie side ran out 2-0 winners over one of the Dutchman’s former sides, FC Utrecht.

After the match emotions ran high as Advocaat brought down the curtain on an illustrious career in elite football.

“It’s great that it ends like this, with a victory,” said Advocaat [Football Oranje].

“What am I most proud of? That I lasted so long. That means that I felt good about myself, otherwise you won’t be able to keep this up that long.”

“I really can’t help it [being emotional]. I would like to, but I am already filling up for nothing. After the last whistle I was quickly gone.”

Speaking of Advocaat, there are rumours abound on social media that the Gers could be set to return to the ground which infamously hosted his first match as Rangers manager.
