El Bufalo won’t be out Colombia reckoning for long

Alfredo Morelos, El Bufalo, Alfie Mo – whatever you call him, he’s our main man at the moment.

Or the Alfie Mo-ment. That’s plenty.

The 22-year-old striker is on fire and looks like a real, top player in the making. At Rangers, he’s settled and loving life. Morelos looks happy with his football at the moment and it is translating into some top performances.

But the young Colombian missed out on a call-up to the national squad this time round. If he keeps up his form, he most certainly won’t miss the next one.

A solid showing in first cap

Yes, Morelos did miss a sitter in his first Colombia performance. He seems to think too much and snatch at his chances when it looks easier to score.

But El Bufalo did set up the winner with some trademark hardworking play.

It looked a superb experience for the youngster and it will surely be the first of many international trips for him. European goalscoring stalwart Falcao said he might even be his long-term replacement for the Coffee Growers.

He’s certainly in the mix.

It’s all good news for Rangers

This really benefits everyone. It benefits Morelos in that he’ll be playing for his country. It benefits Steven Gerrard in that he’ll have a hungry young striker. And it benefits Rangers through more special results and performances.

At times Morelos has been unplayable. He has had a hand in all of our last six goals. That’s in the space of a week.

Both himself and James Tavernier were named in the Europa League team of the week.

If Alfredo Morelos can continue to impress at home and in Europe, he won’t be out of the Colombia reckoning for long.
