Eetu Vertainen impresses against Rangers – will club keep track?

HJK Helsinki were in town for a friendly with Rangers yesterday, and the best player on the pitch wasn’t even wearing blue. For anyone who went to the game, Eetu Vertainen was the burly striker who caused Rangers plenty of bother at Ibrox.
Rangers might’ve ran out 3-2 winners in the end, but Vertainen stood out for Helsinki.
The Finnish forward might only be a teenager, but he made a good impression on the Rangers faithful. The number 36 rolled his man several times, took decisive touches and looked a real threat in front of goal. He was arguably the best player on the pitch yesterday.

Interesting, Eetu Vertainen can also play as an attacking midfielder. Even if he was playing on the last man yesterday.
At only 19, and with a year left on his contract, Rangers could do worse to keep an eye on the player. Vertainen looked a physical, powerful and creative presence for the Finnish outfit. He also brought a fine save out of Wes Foderingham in the first half.
It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve raided HJK Helsinki for one of their top talents. Alfredo Morelos was signed from the current Finnish champions but 18 months ago. And look how that panned out.

It also wouldn’t be the first time in recent memory that Rangers have snapped up an opponent after he impressed at Ibrox. Just ask Borna Barisic.
Eetu Vertainen played 30 times for Helsinki last season (13 from the bench). He scored nine goals and laid on a further seven.
Speaking of talented young Finnish footballers, it looks like we might have at least one on the books by the transfer window’s end.
