Eduardo Herrera will go down as one of biggest flops in Rangers' history

There are few more expensive flops in Rangers history let alone in the last few years than the likes of Eduardo Herrera.

The Mexican forward and compatriot Carlos Pena joined Rangers at a time when shrewd investment from Ibrox was essential. The following years proved the duo were anything but.

But whilst Carlos Pena has moved on and now signed in the second tier of Poland, Herrera remains. And so does the impending reality of his £20k+ per week wages being added back on to the wage bill.

The stumbling duo cost Rangers upwards of £4m in transfer fees and a reported £50k per week between them in wages. They haven’t even paid back a fraction of that.

Eduardo Herrera is currently on-loan at Liga MX side Club Nexaca. He’s played eight times for this year, scoring only once. Any loan deal is set to finish in the summer.

Herrera has just over a year left on his deal and there’s no doubt Rangers will let him move on for very little. If we can’t get him to agree on a deal with another club, expect another mutual termination.

Rangers cannot afford to have the weight of Herrera’s extravagant wages on the bill as Gerrard looks to strengthen in the summer.

But should the club be unable to find the striker a new side,Rangers will probably have to settle his contract. And that means spending even more money on the player.

But at this stage, it’s just a few more pounds on to what has been one of the most expensive and untimely flops in the club’s history.
