Rangers legend Arthur Numan says Swiss striker Cedric Itten “caught my eye” whilst the former Dutch international was working as a scout for AZ Alkmaar.

The former Ibrox hero retains a strong bond with the Rangers faithful and was watching matches in the Swiss Super League and Itten’s performances with former side FC St. Gallen.

A £2m signing for Rangers according to the Sunday Post, Numan is certain Itten is the kind of player the Ibrox legions are going to love.

“Cedric Itten was a player who caught my eye,” said Numan [Sunday Post].

“He is tall, has a good presence and can score goals. Over 15 or 20 yards, he has a good turn of pace, and can be very dangerous.

“I also liked his work ethic. At the right moment, he would move into space to give his team-mates an option for a pass.

“If you are the player in possession, it makes life so much easier when players look to receive the ball.

“His movement was clever, too. It wasn’t as though he was just running around for the sake of it.

“No, he picked the right moment, peeling away from his marker at nice times.

“He also looks to have that winning mentality. I could see him trying to inspire those around him, and the times I watched him, he always gave 100%.

“I think the Rangers fans are going to really take to him. He has that kind of personality.”

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard also praised Cedric Itten’s early impact at Gers training and believes the player will be a “big player” for the Ibrox club.

A powerful striker with an eye for goal, Itten’s 19 goals inspired FC St. Gallen to an impressive second-place finish in the Swiss Super League last season.

The big striker has made three substitute appearances for Rangers already in his career but the club’s fans have yet to see the best of the player.

But the support will take solace in Arthur Numan’s comments; if the top-class former Gers left-back is giving you a glowing commendation, then you must have something.
