Dundee United have been boosted by the return to fitness of Charlie Mulgrew ahead of Sunday’s Premiership clash against Rangers.
Former Aberdeen and Celtic defender Mulgrew has been a key player for United since signing from Blackburn Rovers in the summer on a two-year deal.

He had been a near ever-present at centre-back until he picked up a calf injury in January.
The 35-year-old has missed The Terrors’ last five Premiership fixtures but he was an unused substitute for their Scottish Cup Fifth Round win over Partick Thistle last weekend and is now ready to return to action.
Dundee United boosted by Mulgrew update ahead of Rangers clash
“We had a couple of days off, but Charlie was back in full training on Tuesday,” said United boss Tam Courts [Football Scotland]. “Charlie is desperate to be involved and to play. He is a top performer and has been very consistent. He gets frustrated really quickly when he is not playing as he loves his football.”
“Charlie will also have seen the team putting a few results together and will be desperate to come in and help.
“The good thing is that he will be able to get a full week’s training and will be in contention to start against Rangers this weekend. We have a lot of big games coming up and it will be good to have his experience and quality to call on.”

United have done well at the back in Mulgrew’s absence, keeping clean sheets in their last four matches across all competitions.
It would still be no surprise if he was drafted back into the starting XI on Sunday, though, as Courts tries everything to keep the in-form Alfredo Morelos at bay.
The Colombian striker drew a blank at Tannadice earlier in the season but he looks much fitter and more motivated right now, and has scored eight goals in his last nine matches in all competitions.
