Ex-Rangers captain Lee McCulloch has said that the Old Firm momentum is with Rangers, even after fan confidence took a knock with the result against Motherwell yesterday.

Now the dust has settled, the result has gained a little perspective.

Yesterday’s result a bump in the road

Although you’d think Lee McCulloch’s comments shift pressure onto Rangers, it feels like they’re doing the opposite. Yesterday’s result was one touch away from a tough three points gained. It felt like a defeat. The second half was as poor a 45 as we’ve produced all season.

But Rangers roared back and simply lost their edge in the final 20 minutes. The form has been a startling turn around from last season. We’d have folded a lot earlier there. It was a bit of a learning curve for Stevie G as well.

Losing late goals is a real worry, but don’t expect it to continue.

Barisic, Ejaria and Lafferty all produced positive performances.

This is still a work in progress, but we have built a reputation already this early on. We’ve gained some big results early on. Motherwell knew that was a result. Last season they might’ve been disappointed with it. We’re still unbeaten.

Pressure on Celtic

Celtic were also anything but convincing in a poor showing against Hamilton. I wouldn’t read too much into it though. We can only focus on ourselves, and should their house of cards should collapse, taking our eye off the ball if only for second hands the advantage back.

As for us leading the charge for Sunday’s game, we’ll talk on the pitch.

It feels like such a big game so early in, but the pressure is all on Celtic here.

We’ve also got a 6000-mile round trip to Russia to worry about first. Especially before we talk about momentum.

McCulloch’s comments just confirm what a lot of us are thinking.

We will at least have a chance.
