Incoming Rangers Director of Recruitment Nils Koppen has sent a message to PSV Eindhoven on his first day on the job at Ibrox.

Although Rangers announced the signing of the former PSV scout at the beginning of December, the club were clear Nils’s job didn’t officially begin until 2024.

The appointment completes what is a revamped Rangers Board of Recruitment with the club doing away with the Sporting Director model used during the tenure of Ross Wilson.

Ahead of what could be a busy transfer window at Ibrox, Rangers fans will be happy to see Nils Koppen starting early as he wishes former side PSV Eindhoven all the best.

Ibrox director sends PSV Eindhoven message

Taking to revamped social media platform X, Belgian national Nils Koppen, 38, thanked PSV Eindhoven after five-and-a-half years working as a scout in the Netherlands.

The recruitment guru has helped revamp the Eredivisie side’s squad into likely title winners and the incoming Gers director pointed to their hunt for title 25 in the message.

“It’s an honour and I’m very proud to start a new chapter as the Director Football Recruitment at Rangers FC,” said Koppen. “Can’t wait to get to work!

“@PSV thanks for the amazing time ! All the best for the remaining of the season & the race for #25.”

Nils Koppen initially joined PSV as a youth scout in the summer of 2018, having spent time with KRC Genk in Belgium following spells around the country’s lower leagues.

Nils Koppen officially starts with Rangers

Rangers fans will be hoping that Nils Koppen’s European connections and his strong record with PSV Eindhoven can benefit the Ibrox squad from here on in.

The club’s recruitment has come in for substantial criticism as of late and whilst there have been successes, there have also been too many failures.

The pressure is already on Nils Koppen, as it is everyone at Rangers, to deliver consistently and everyone at the club is backing their new Director of Recruitment to do just that.

Whilst Koppen officially starts at Rangers today, the club’s new recruitment guru has reportedly been heavily involved in Philippe Clement’s early January business.

Having taken Wolves loanee Fabio Silva to PSV Eindhoven last season, Nils Koppen was named as an influential figure in Rangers securing a deal this January.

The Belgian scout has also been referenced in links to PSV youngster Fredrik Oppegard as well as Eredivisie winger Million Manhoef.
