Dinamo Zagreb plot late swoop for Rangers-linked Eredivisie star - report

Dinamo Zagreb are reportedly plotting a late swoop for Rangers-linked Eredivisie star Danilho Doekhi.

At the start of the transfer window, both Football Insider and the Telegraph credited the Gers with interest in the towering Vitesse centre-back.

Although he’s now in the final year of his contract, the 23-year-old was given the captain’s armband ahead of the start of the season and then a hamstring injury sustained earlier this month appeared to significantly reduce his chances of a move.

However, it’s now being reported that he could be on the move on deadline day.

Citing Dutch outlet de Gelderlander, the Daily Record reports that Croatian champions Dinamo are ‘plotting a late bid’ and are ‘keen to get a deal over the line’ before the window closes.

Rangers-linked Doekhi heading to Croatia?

It would be something of a surprise if Doekhi left the more established Eredivisie for the Croatian First Football League, but there would be a chance to compete for silverware and to play in the Europa League with Dinamo.

It may not be an immediate blow for Rangers if he does move to Croatia on deadline day, as Steven Gerrard is currently well-stocked at centre-back.

However, the former Dutch youth international is a very talented young defender and the Gers may well be plotting a pre-contract swoop in January, ahead of the possible departures of Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun next summer, and a transfer to Dinamo would scupper those plans.

In other transfer news, in an apparent boost for Rangers, a Premier League team linked with an Ibrox star are reportedly closing in on a £30m deal for an alternative player.
