'Different class' - ex-Rangers player earning rave reviews at Hearts

Former Rangers player Barrie McKay is earning rave reviews for his performances at Hearts.

McKay spent five years at Ibrox between 2012 and 2017, playing for the Gers in all four divisions and scoring 20 goals to go alongside 39 assists.

He left for Nottingham Forest in 2017 and spent the next four years in the EFL, but after he was released by Swansea City at the end of last season, he returned to Scottish football, signing a two-year deal at Tynecastle.

So far, his stats don’t make for great reading.

He’s yet to score and only has one assist to his name from 11 Premiership appearances.

However, he’s nailed down a starting berth under Robbie Neilson and has impressed with his general play in a side that’s overachieving given that it’s their first season back in the top flight.

Gary Mackay-Steven and Stephen Kingsley scored the goals as the Jambos defeated St Mirren 2-0 on Saturday but despite not breaking his duck in maroon, McKay received plenty of praise after the game.

Here’s a selection of reactions from Twitter:

McKay has a chance to do his old club a favour in his next outing when Hearts travel to Parkhead to take on Celtic on Thursday night and as the Hoops know all too well, he’s capable of the spectacular.

Meanwhile, Rangers fans have reacted with delight to the club’s favourable Scottish Cup draw.
