Did Rangers press conference hint at big selection call for Legia clash?

On Wednesday afternoon, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard addressed the media to preview the huge Europa League qualifying tie against Legia Warsaw.

The manager talked tactics, atmosphere and penalties ahead of the return leg.

The choice of player to accompany him may have also provided a clue for those hungry for early team news.

Did Rangers press conference hint at start for Kamara?

Glen Kamara sat alongside Gerrard and spoke about his desire to feature on big occasions for the club.

This isn’t an exact science, but ahead of the away leg of the third round qualifier against FC Midtjylland, Jordan Jones accompanied the manager for press duties.

The following evening, he was a surprise inclusion in the starting XI and he went on to star in the game.

In much the same way, it would be strange for Gerrard to send Kamara out to face the media if he had no intention of playing him on Thursday evening.

Most Gers fans would expect to see Steven Davis in action tomorrow night, given that he only played 20 minutes at the weekend. Yet, unless Gerrard is going for a double bluff, the Finland international looks like he may keep his spot.

It’s tough to see either Ryan Jack or Joe Aribo dropping out. Jack is riding the crest of a wave following his Scotland call-up, while Aribo has been hugely impressive since his switch from Charlton.

Perhaps the manager will opt to keep Davis in reserve once more, with a view to him being fresh for Sunday’s Old Firm at Ibrox.

Gerrard has something of an embarrassment of riches in the middle of the park right now and whichever trio makes the starting lineup, they’ll fancy themselves to outperform their Legia counterparts.
