Derek McInnes has revealed that he had a conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson after he was appointed Rangers manager.
Ferguson likes keeping tabs on the goings-on at Ibrox and has met with a number of managers and players in the past.
Despite managing Aberdeen, the Scotsman grew up supporting Rangers and is still a fan of the club.
Which pundit do Rangers fans dislike the most?
Some of them are terrible…
Sir Alex Ferguson understood why Derek McInnes left Hearts for Rangers
Derek McInnes has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted that he had joined Rangers ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The former Manchester United boss enjoyed the 54-year-old’s setup at Hearts, with him nearly guiding them to the title last season.
However, McInnes explained to Ferguson why he left in order to join the Light Blues, and claims that he understood the reasoning behind it.
Now that Danny Rohl has left Rangers, how would you rate his time at the club?
The Gers boss said: “I spoke to him the other day and he was delighted.
“He enjoyed coming to see our stuff at Hearts last season and he thought we had a special thing going.
“But he understood why I’m here and we had a good chat.
“He sounded in good form.
“Obviously, he’s not been in the best of health, so I’m delighted to have that chat with him.”

How McInnes can adapt Sir Alex’s principles at Ibrox
Ferguson always liked to settle on his teams well in advance, ideally on Friday, and that is something he would have advised McInnes to do over the years.
The Manchester United legend had a special connection with his players who would run through brick walls for him.
If McInnes can achieve that at Ibrox, there is very little that can stop him from being a success.
If Lewis Ferguson joins post the World Cup, who should Derek McInnes name the Rangers captain?
This is assuming Nicolas Raskin leaves Rangers…
It remains to be seen if the Rangers boss does engage in the mind games like Fergie did, but there will be certain press conferences before derbies where he may need to.
Danny Rohl clearly struggled to deal with Martin O’Neill’s jabs in press conferences before Old Firms, but McInnes is a different sort of personality.
Fans are undoubtedly excited to see what the new manager can bring to the table, and it is a positive that he has a pre-season to pass his ideas on to his players.
