Derek Johnstone has assessed where Rangers are at this point in the season, in his Evening Times column.
The Gers enjoyed an excellent run in Europe, but failed to reach a domestic cup final and are adrift of Celtic in the league.

Even with a victory on Sunday, a seven-point gap looks near impossible to overcome.
“I think if you asked the supporters, the majority of them will say they are happy with the job that Steven has done and where they see the team heading”, wrote Johnstone for the Evening Times.
“They won’t be happy at not winning the league, though. Missing out on one of the cups was a real disappointment for them as well and that has put a wee bit of pressure on the manager because Rangers is a club that has to be lifting silverware.
“But Steven will be better for this season as well. He has now had a bit of time at Rangers, he has a better understanding of the club and of Scottish football and he will know exactly what he needs next term.”

Verdict
Johnstone’s comments are a little contradictory here.
Rangers fans are happy with the job Gerrard is doing but aren’t happy with the team’s performance in the league or the cups?
March has been a tough month for the club, with three consecutive poor results followed by an international break.
I think it’s fair to say plenty of supporters were disgruntled and that that break came at a good time.
The pause in fixtures allows for a dose of perspective. Gerrard still looks the right man for this massive job and the fanbase is largely still onside.
