Derek Ferguson was left gobsmacked live on air when the former Rangers midfielder was told the extent of the club’s recent failures in terms of trophies.
Since Rangers’ financial collapse in 2012, the Gers have struggled to offer a consistent challenge not just against Celtic but against the rest of Scottish football.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound after Rangers crashed out of the Scottish Cup against Queen’s Park, Derek Ferguson was left speechless as the stats laid bare the picture at Ibrox.
Rangers Scottish trophy record laid bare
Derek Ferguson was reflecting on Rangers’ painful Scottish Cup exit against Queens Park when he reflected on the Gers’ recent trophy record.
Whilst the ex-Rangers midfielder is technically correct in his assertion the Gers have won only three of the last 27 trophies, things are certainly a lot worse than that.
Since the 2011/12 season, Rangers have won only three major competitions in the shape of the Scottish Premiership (20/21), the Scottish Cup (21/22) and the League Cup (23/24).
That means the Gers have won only three out of 42 available trophies including this season, assuming Celtic don’t capitulate in the Scottish Premiership.
Derek Ferguson: “I stand corrected”
“There’s another stat,” said Ferguson. “I think Rangers out of the last 27 trophies up for grabs we’ve only won three.
”Three out of 27, which is not a good stat to be had.”
Richard Gordon then interrupted the ex-Rangers midfielder: “That stat that you threw out Derek, what did you say? Three out of 27?
”It’s three out of 42. It goes all the way back to the season 2010/11. They won the League and the League Cup.“

Derek Ferguson responded: “Is it? Wow. There you go. I stand corrected.”
Richard Gordon explained: ”When you said it I’m sure, I mean it’s remarkable. It might not be 42 because I think I’ve counted this season.
”Take it through from there, they won the league in 20/21, they won the Scottish Cup in 21/22, and they won the League Cup in 23/24.”
Remarkably, St Johnstone have won the same amount of trophies in that time having twice won the Scottish Cup and once the League Cup.
Callum Davidson, who led Queen’s Park to victory at Ibrox, led the Saints to a cup double when Rangers won the title in 2020/21.
