Patrick Stewart must be wondering if he made the right decision when he agreed to become the new CEO of Rangers.

Every interview so far he has had to deal with questions about Philippe Clement’s position as Rangers manager and things aren’t going to change any time soon.

Ih his time at Rangers, Clement has spoken about injuries, about fixture congestion, about having his own players and about having young players, all are obstacles, but they are not an excuse for the recent form when you look at what is happening in the Premier League.

David Moyes shows Philippe Clement failings at Rangers

Since returning to Goodison Park as Everton manager, David Moyes has lost just twice in eight games, despite the Toffees recording only one win in their previous 12.

With the same squad of players.

According to Clement, who doubled-down in November though, it isn’t possible for a manager to make this sort of impact with so little time to prepare players:

“Changing a formation in this moment, I think it will only create more doubts. Also, how are you going to change the formation if you can train on that one time?

“How you’re going to train on that in how you build, how you create chances, how you defend. Everything in a session of one hour. So those are also the things you can build on things.

“If you have some foundations, if you have something solid, you can build on the next step. We’re not that far yet with the group to do that in this moment. So it’s a difficult one to turn that around in one day with one training.”

Why does Moyes make Rangers board decision easier?

On two counts Clement shoots himself in the foot with these comments.

Rangers haven’t had a mid-week game in the whole of February, and have got worse.

More time on the training ground, and yet the team has regressed.

Moyes has had less time to work with his players, more games, but has managed to turn a team that couldn’t score into one that has taken points off Liverpool, Man Utd and Spurs, scoring seven goals in the process.

Clement refuses to look at himself or accept that a change would do anything, that in itself suggests that his time as Rangers manager is up.
