David Edgar sends message as Jermain Defoe joins Woking
On 29 March, Woking made an official announcement that Defoe will be joining as the manager.
The National League club were looking for a permanent manager and decided to hire the 43-year-old.
Defoe’s past experience of management or coaching came at Ibrox when he was the caretaker manager back in 2021.

He also moved to Spurs back in 2022 to work as the club ambassador and academy coach before leaving in 2024 to work on his managerial career.
That has paid off, albeit in the fifth tier of English football, and Gers fans will surely be keeping tabs on how he fares.
David Edgar, the host of the Heart & Hand podcast, also wished the former striker the best and revealed that he admired him.
He wrote on X: “Love Jermain Defoe. Hope he smashes it.”

Why Rangers fans continue to love Defoe
Despite moving to Ibrox in the twilight of his career, Defoe had an immense impact on guiding the team to glory.
He played a key role in helping Rangers win the Scottish Premiership title, ending Celtic’s dominance.
The Englishman scored his 300th career goal in a win against Livingston, and that strike is one that the Gers fans remember fondly.
Apart from his impact on the pitch, he played a key role off it too, helping the younger players adapt behind the scenes.
He was a powerful voice inside the dressing room and earned plaudits from the likes of Joe Aribo, Calvin Bassey and Glen Kamara.
Defoe also connected with the fans after games and at different events and even when he left the club, he spoke fondly about his time at Ibrox and the memories he created.
