Former Rangers chairman Dave King has been out in the press this week explaining his decision to sell his shares at Ibrox to fans group Club 1872.
Rangers’ largest shareholder wants to sell his 20% stake in the club to the fans group so that “never again” can the events of 2012 unfold at Ibrox.
But in discussing his views on the situation with leading Rangers fan media Four Lads Had a Dream, King also put to bed incessant rumours about Rangers’ relationship with retailers Castore.
Celtic bloggers and media outlets have previously alluded to the suggestion that former Rangers retailers Sports Direct had some kind of involvement in Rangers’ £25m deal with Castore.
Castore co-founder Tom Beahon has repeatedly refuted this suggestion which gathered steam after Rangers kit appeared in Ashley-owned businesses.
But in discussing the retail situation at Rangers during his revealing interview with Four Lads, King assured fans he is certain High Street billionaire Mike Ashley is finally gone from the club.
“The dealing with Mike Ashley and Sports Direct was absolutely vital to getting to the position that we have reached today,” King told the Four Lads Had a Dream podcast.
“I think from Mike Ashley’s point of view as well, the extent to which a businessman of that immense wealth and capability invested in Rangers and got involved in this indicates just how important it was to him as well.
“It was a fight that he wanted to win.
“The absurdity of him trying to put me in jail over Christmas for Contempt of Court for looking after Rangers’ interests indicates the depths and levels of, quite frankly, disgusting behaviour that Sports Direct went to to try and retain their grip on Rangers.
“It is absolutely vital that we have been able to release that completely, definitely and absolutely.”
Definitely and absolutely.

For a man who promised to stay on board at Rangers until the toxic influence of Mike Ashley was finally removed, King’s comments can finally put those irritating Castore rumours to bed.
Castore themselves have previously answered questions regarding Mike Ashley and their shareholding and have been clear the businessman is not involved with the brand.
