Dapo Mebude undergoes “successful surgery” after serious car accident in Belgium

Former Rangers star Dapo Mebude has undergone “successful surgery” after a serious car accident in Belgium.

The 22-year-old currently plays for Belgian Pro League side KV Oostende with the club’s friendly against Knokke cancelled as a result of the tragic incident.

In a statement on the club’s official X account, Oostende said:

“The practice match between Knokke and KVO was canceled due to a car accident by player Dapo Mebude.

“He was taken to hospital but there is no further information about his situation.

“Our thoughts are with Dapo and his family.”

Later, the account would update supporters claiming that Dapo Mebude had undergone “successful surgery” following the devastating accident:

“Dapo Mebude underwent successful surgery after his accident. Tomorrow we will get more information about his situation.

“We thank the medical staff of AZ Brugge for the good care.

“We think of Dapo and his family and wish them much strength and recovery.”

Rangers send Dapo Mebude message after accident

Dapo Mebude came through the Rangers Academy and even played for the club’s top team during a Scottish Premiership clash with Kilmarnock in 2019.

A Scotland U21 international who moved to Watford in 2021, the striker now turns out in Belgium and there has been a huge outpouring of support online in the wake of the news.

Rangers have released their own statement on social media, wishing Mebude all the best in his recovery from the devastating accident.

In a statement posted on X, Rangers said:

“The thoughts of everyone at Rangers FC are with our former Academy player, Dapo Mebude and his family at this time.”
