Dapo Mebude has signed a new contract at Rangers.
The deal sees the the 17-year-old extend his stay at Ibrox until at least 2021.
The teenager has shown great promise as part of a Rangers Reserves team that’s excelling under the tutelage of Graeme Murty.
Additionally, he played 45 minutes for the U20s in their mid-week victory over Rapid Vienna.
It is particularly pleasing news considering at the beginning of the month, reports suggested that Mebude had rejected a new deal.
Perhaps, Rangers have since come back with an improved offer. It seems as though the youngster was certainly referring to drawn out negotiations when announcing the deal on his personal Twitter account.
A product of Rangers’ elite schools programme at Boclair Academy, he signed his first professional contract, in May 2017.
Clearly, recent eye-catching performances have prompted the Gers to tie him down in the longer term.
“We are delighted to extend Dapo’s contract”, said Rangers’ Head of Academy, Craig Mulholland.
“He has made great progress in the last few years having been named in the first team squad and playing up a year at international level.”
“There has never been a more exciting time for a young player to be at Rangers”, he added.
Certainly, the club seem to be getting a lot right at youth level at the minute. The Gers are clearly keen to develop a talent pool that will serve the first team for years to come.
Securing Dapo Mebude’s signature is definitely another positive step to that end.
