The future of Cyriel Dessers remains a big talking point amongst Rangers fans as the club looks to reshape the squad this January.

Patrick Stewart refused to be drawn on Dessers’ situation at Ibrox when the Rangers CEO spoke to the press about potential outgoings at the club.

With Cyriel Dessers out of favour given the emergence of Hamza Igamane and improving fitness of Danilo, plenty within the Ibrox support would like to see the high-earning striker moved on.

Cyriel Dessers one of three considered by Cagliari

The latest reports in Italy claim that Cyriel Dessers is one of three striker options being considered by Cagliari this January.

Corriere Dello Sport are reporting in its print edition (13/01, p.23) that the Italian outfit are prioritising a striker with the big Rangers hitman one of three options.

Whilst Cagliari are said to be very interested in bringing Uzbek striker Eldor Shomurodov to their club this January, the Roma striker’s salary demands are said to be too high.

It has increased the focus on links to Cyriel Dessers and alternative option David Okereke, the Nigerian striker a former teammate of Dessers’ at Cremonese.

Pulse Nigeria report that the Nigerian hitman joined the Italians at the same time as Cyriel Dessers, with Cremonese paying €10m (£8.4m) to complete deal in 2022.

Both Dessers and Okereke played extensively for Cremonese in the 22/23 season where they scored six and seven Serie A goals respectively.

Currently on loan at Turkish outfit Gaziantep, it remains unclear how easy a deal would be to do for Cagliari in these conditions.

Cyriel Dessers has already been linked to Cagliari earlier in the window.

Rangers striker wanted around Europe

Cyriel Dessers has been the subject of transfer reporting this January with Rangers believed to be open to the striker’s exit.

There have been reports in France that Dessers is wanted by Saint Etienne but the latest surrounding that interest appears to have gone quiet.

Instead, long-term suitors Cagliari are the team most prominently linked to Cyriel Dessers and Rangers fans are keeping an eye on developments at the Serie A outfit.

Dessers joined Rangers from relegated Serie A club Cremonese in a £4.5m deal in 2023 and the 30-year-old remains highly thought of in Italy.
