Rangers recruitment has been questionable since winning the Scottish Premiership with a series of expensive flops seeing a position of dominance quickly turned into a position of weakness.
Another summer rebuild is on the cards with the Europa League proving to be an almost unwelcome distraction amid talks of a takeover by the San Francisco 49ers.
The priority, as it was last summer, will be getting high earners off the wage bill with Cyriel Dessers the poster boy for a Rangers transfer strategy that set them back years.

Cyriel Dessers earns Nigeria international call-up
A deal was agreed to sell Dessers only for the striker to knock back terms with Atlanta United.
Interest was reported again in January with clubs in Italy considering a move for the 30-year old striker.
Despite fan perception, his stock remains high and a call-up to the Nigeria national team will only further help Rangers to off-load a player who continues to frustrate.
With 21 goals and six assists in 42 appearances, Dessers has a solid return, when consideration is given to minutes played, it is even better.
One goal contribution every 90 minutes.
How much should Rangers look to sell Dessers for?
Kyogo Furuhashi left Celtic for Stade Rennais in a £10m deal in January with 12 goals and four assists to his name this season in over 30 appearances.
Not only is his medical file considerably thicker than Dessers’ with a history of hamstring problems, but he is only a matter of days younger too.
When Rangers paid £4.5m to Cremonese it seemed like a lot of money for a player of his age, now, there is no reason why Nils Koppen shouldn’t be looking to get a similar fee back.
Dessers has done exactly what he was brought into do when Michael Beale signed him, just because he is a poor fit domestically, doesn’t mean that at the right club he couldn’t become a hero.
