Craig Moore slams weak Rangers squad for domestic struggles

There isn’t much of a secret about what Rangers biggest problem has been in a troublesome season.

Against Celtic, after the 1-1 draw at Ibrox, Rangers won the head-to-head encounters with two wins, one draw and one defeat.

That the Scottish Premiership table shows a 17-point gap shows exactly what needs to improve.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Craig Moore has explained what he thinks is a weakness that the Rangers squad needs to improve on to have any chance of catching up.

Craig Moore slams Rangers mentality after Old Firm draw

When asked by host Rob McLean about Rangers ability to get up for the Old Firm derbies, but struggle almost every other week, Moore said:

“Yeah, and again, those other kind of matches where Rangers have consistently this season, you know, got trapped, not being good enough, drop points. That’s why we’re seeing the gap, you know?

“We touch on the big matches as a group of players that seem to be able to find a way for those big matches, but just having the mentality, Rob, to be able to do that in the so-called smaller matches.

“Maybe the mindset’s not right and hasn’t been right for not only this season. You can still look at probably a little bit deeper than that from this group of players. And that’s something that needs to be improved upon for next season and obviously try to finish the season as positive as they possibly can as well, because certainly every player’s career is on the line at the football club.”

How can Rangers fix the mentality problem?

Moore is right, it’s not against Celtic who these players should be judged.

It is almost a different type of game playing against the other teams in the league and Rangers have lost any sort of fear factor that previously used to be there.

Every team is having a go, regardless of position in the league.

There will need to be reinforcements brought in to give the next manager a chance, with more pace and dribbling ability, but they have to be the right type of player too.

It takes more than technical ability to play for Rangers and there have been too many lapses of concentration and basic errors throughout the campaign.

Signing players like Moore when he was in his peak would be a positive start.
