Craig Moore insists Todd Cantwell’s recent influence on two Rangers stars has been ‘crucial’

Todd Cantwell is certainly back to playing his best football for Rangers and former Ibrox defender Craig Moore is well aware of that.

But the Aussie thinks Cantwell’s recent form has actually risen the levels of two Rangers stars in particular because of the attacking midfielder’s huge influence on the pitch.

As per Transfermarkt, Cantwell has scored five Scottish Premiership goals in his last eight games after previously failing to score until Christmas Eve against Motherwell.

Unfortunately it was a knee injury hampered the beginning of his season and Philippe Clement hasn’t been hesitant in hooking the playmaker at half-time during games under his stewardship.

But more recently he’s proving to be a fantastic asset for this Rangers side who are looking very strong heading in the title race with Celtic.

He is one of the best performing attacking midfielders in the Premiership according to FotMob in terms of goals scored (5), shots taken (44), successful passes (624) and successful dribbles (24).

And Moore, speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, is adamant that the likes of John Lundstram and Rabbi Matondo are benefitting from Cantwell’s form because of his creativity and ability to find pockets of space and make things happen for Rangers.

Craig Moore was responding to one of the show’s callers about Todd Cantwell’s form of late for Rangers and said: “My thoughts are that Cantwell is a fantastic player.

“I’m pleased to see that his game, in terms of his contribution now, seems to be more important than the kind of taking a knock and milking it a little bit because I think that winds people up more than anything else.

“And we see how good he is technically with the vision, the passes, combination play, he’s got goals in his locker. He’s a very important player at the moment.

“And what happens when Cantwell is in this headspace and playing in this manner, all of a sudden Lundstram, for example, is far more positive. All of a sudden, Matondo is far more positive.

“The influence that he has on teammates I think is crucial. Not only for Cantwell but for a lot of the players, I think it’s important they stay fit for the run-in.

“European football is going to come into play and that’s another challenge for us, but that’s a challenge on the back of being successful and getting to that stage.

“But yeah, Cantwell plays a huge role – there is no doubt about that. He has the ability to bring the defence into attack, he takes up good positions, he can get things sarted, he can deliver as well.”
