Could Zak Rudden force his way into Steven Gerrard's Rangers plans?

Rangers youngster Zak Rudden has signed a contract extension with Rangers in a move which sees him signed on at Ibrox until 2021.
The talented striker impressed on-loan at Falkirk last season (where he scored 12 goals) and he has clearly given Steven Gerrard something to think about.
Whilst most people believe Rudden will be immediately farmed out on-loan, could he force his way into Gerrard’s plan during the club’s Portuguese training camp?

Rangers are set to fly out to Portugal this weekend as they prepare for an eight-day training camp.
During this period, Steven Gerrard will make his decision on numerous players and also make a decision on where the club needs to improve.
Last season Rangers were caught short a couple of times with a lack of strength of depth up front. The Betfred Cup semi-final with Aberdeen is the most obvious example.

Rudden could prove a very useful squad player and the club clearly rate him.
Even if Kyle Lafferty doesn’t move on, or if he does and is replaced, there’s still space for a back-up striker in the squad.

In the case Laff is sold, Zak Rudden could provide emergency cover to the electric Alfredo Morelos and the age-defying Jermain Defoe.
Whilst his development might be better served by regular football, there’s no reason why he couldn’t also play a bit-part role for Rangers this season.
It’ll be a decision which Steven Gerrard makes over the course of the next week or so.
