After another twist in the tale with the Liverpool forward, could Rangers go back in for Dominic Solanke?

The Reds striker has been told by England under-21 manager Aidy Boothroyd that he won’t feature unless he’s playing regularly, according to the Daily Express.

Solanke had been linked with Rangers for what seemed like all summer. The former Chelsea kid is a talented forward, but has struggled massively for games since moving to Liverpool. Coming up against the likes of Roberto Firminio and Mo Salah, game-time has been limited.

The striker also hasn’t featured in any of Liverpool’s opening games of the season.

Boothroyd has been in touch with Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp to warn him of Solanke’s national team future.

This will surely see the striker push further for a move in the January transfer window. Rangers could certainly do with having a strong interest in any potential deal.

Necessary cover

The Gers have only Kyle Lafferty and Alfredo Morelos as proven talent up front. Solanke would add to that list, with Umar Sadiq yet to be given a real chance.

Solanke would offer something different, and would bring a touch of class to the Gers forward line that isn’t currently there.

The Liverpool striker won the Golden Ball at the under-20 World Cup last summer. He’s regarded as one of England’s most talented young forwards, but game-time is a must for his continued development.

English Premier League clubs are likely to be interested in Solanke. But Rangers could have an ace in the pack in Gerrard.

The Liverpool legend knows the youngster well from his time as the under-18s youth coach. This could help sway a deal in Rangers’ favour.

If Gerrard is to continue playing with a two up front, he could still do with more cover. With two striking positions possibly up for grabs, Solanke would be a terrific addition to the squad.

Whether Rangers decide to make their move for the forward or not, however, remains to be seen.
