Controversial Rangers defender George Edmundson has wished the club the best of luck for the rest of the season as he heads out on loan to Derby County.

The defender has struggled to recover from an early-season Covid-19 breach where Edmundson and teammate Jordan Jones attended a party and were eventually suspended by the club.

The incident was much-maligned by the club’s supporters and Steven Gerrard even touched on it in his first pre-match press-conference since the Derby move was concluded.

“George has gone out to play, he’s had a frustrating year,” said Gerrard [Rangers].

“He obviously had the Covid situation, he’s on the back of a hernia injury

“He had a dip in form and confidence earlier on in the season and has found it hard to shift the three boys who’re fit and available.”

It’s certainly been a frustrating year for Edmundson but that didn’t stop him wishing the club and the supporters all the best as the Gers close in on 55 this campaign.

“Wishing Rangers FC the best of luck for the rest of the season I’ll be supporting all the way,” reads a George Edmundson tweet.

Rangers fans will be wishing the defender all the best as he looks to recapture the sort of form that had him scoring against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League last season.

According to one leading journalist, the defender signed to replace Edmundson in this window is also subject to a special clause as part of the move.
