If you remember back to mid-August, reports in Romania claimed that Cluj striker Billel Omrani was interesting a “mystery Scottish club” [GSP].

Given the report quoted a price of £3m+, there are only two clubs who could realistically afford the player. Old firm rivals Rangers and Celtic.

The big striker put Celtic to the sword in the Champions League for Cluj – but according to reports from Romania he’s heading to Parkhead and not Ibrox.

Emanuel Rosu is a respected Romanian football journalist with close to 15k followers on Twitter, you imagine he’ll have someone close enough to Cluj to announce this.

But the Scottish Sun has run an exclusive suggesting that Omrani will not be moving to Celtic.

By the same token, you expect that they have people close enough to Parkhead to be able to announce that information.

Whatever the case, it looks like Omrani won’t be joining Rangers.

The report about the big French forward moving to Scotland had people thinking about Ibrox as a destination for two main reasons.

Firstly, Steven Gerrard admitted to the press that there was a “debate” to be had over signing a third striker [Scotsman] for his side.

And secondly, Omrani managed to hit two goals to knock Celtic out the Champions League at Parkhead.

He’d have already endeared himself to Rangers fans before walking in through the door.
