Clubs have thrown out controversial SPFL Covid-19 proposals which proposed 3-0 forfeits if clubs were left without squads and would give the SPFL the power to void the league season.
The Daily Record is reporting that a majority of the 42 member clubs have come together to throw out the proposals which leave the SPFL with no clear plan should the season shut down again.
That report claims the “no vote” to the proposals will likely be confirmed this week as Covid-19 measures are introduced across the country.
This has since been confirmed by the SPFL who released a statement on the consutation this afternoon.
The SPFL asked clubs last week to be granted a range of special powers amid the coronavirus pandemic and a hectic winter schedule.
Under the powers, outlined here by PLZ Soccer, the SPFL are asking member clubs for permissions over six different questions:
Would you now support the resolution to give the SPFL board broad powers to manage Covid-19 related disruption?
Would you support the SPFL board being given power to impose a 3-0 defeat on clubs unwilling to unable to fulfil a league fixture?
With the uncertainty about the virus do you think it’s too early to take decision now about situations that could arise at the end of a curtailed season?
How many league games do you believe need to be completed for a season in a division to be considered valid?
Would you support a resolution giving the SPFL board the power to curtail the season in the event it cannot be completed by May 31st?
In the event an insufficient number of games have been played, would you give the SPFL board the power to void the season?
With Rangers top of the league and this season’s SPFL Board made up by a host of notable figures the club have clashed with in the past, this will come as good news for Gers fans.
This season’s SPFL Board is also made up of Neil Doncaster (CEO), Murdoch MacLennan (Chairman), Karyn McCluskey (non-executive), Steve Brown (St Johnstone), Les Gray (Hamilton Academical), Peter Lawwell (Celtic), Ross McArthur (Dunfermline Athletic), Ewen Cameron (Alloa Athletic), Ken Ferguson (Brechin City) and Gordon Thomson (Clyde).
