Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is reportedly interesting Portuguese giants Porto but the Primeira Liga side have already splashed out for a forward this summer.

Reports in Portugal claimed that Porto were monitoring the situation involving Morelos with a view to a move should main man Moussa Marega move on this summer [TVI24].

But only this week have Porto splashed out a reported £4m (€4.5m) on Rio Ave’s Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi, with Andre Pereira also going in the opposite direction.

This may not change the situation involving a potential move for Morelos should a Crystal Palace or Newcastle United follow up on their reported interest in Moussa Marega.

But for the time being Porto appear well-stocked in the forward positions and as a standard, generally don’t fork out big fees on players, preferring to nurture and splash out on mid-level talent and then sell it on for huge profits.

Rangers are reportedly demanding close to £20m for Morelos amid claims from South America that an £18m (€20m) deal has been struck for the Colombian [Casa Blanca].

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard answered “don’t know” when asked what the future held for Morelos after the player was dropped from the squad last weekend.

But after being reinstated as an unused substitute against Hamilton the Rangers boss expects him back after the international break as things stand.

“All I can do is manage the situation on a daily basis,” explained Gerrard [Scottish Sun].

“At the moment, where we stand right now, I expect to see him after the international break.”
