Club insider account Four Lads Had a Dream has set the record straight on Rangers’ reported pursuit of Linfield forward Charlie Allen.

During the 2018/19 NIFL Premiership season, Allen became the youngest player ever to appear for the Belfast club, aged just 15.

Now a year older and with a handful more senior appearances under his belt, it appears he’s on the move.

Over the weekend, a Belfast Live report claimed that Leeds United had ‘won the race’ for his signature.

It’s stated that the Whites had beaten off competition from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, with prior links to Rangers also mentioned.

The Gers have been linked with the young forward for almost a year, with a Belfast Telegraph report in July 2019 citing the club as one of several interested parties.

Club insider Twitter account, Four Lads Had a Dream, claim there has been no interest in the player for some time, though.

“Regarding reports that Rangers have missed out on Linfield player Charlie Allen, Rangers were never in for the player & have had no interest since Ross Wilson took over at the club,” read the tweet.

“Talk that we were snubbed or missed out isn’t true. Not on our summer target list.”

Verdict

Allen is one of the most promising players to come out of Northern Ireland in many years and it seems likely that the Gers were tracking his progress at one point.

However, it seems any interest went cold when Mark Allen left his role as sporting director.

Bears should be mindful that there is another Northern Irish wonderkid already on board with the club’s Academy, though.

Charlie Lindsay captained the Rangers U17s at the Alkass Cup in Doha earlier this year and won the player of the tournament award.
