Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes has moved to Arsenal to the tune of £27m amid reported interest in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.

Arsenal have now confirmed the move for the defender on their social channels with ex-Rangers midfielder turned Gunners boss Mikel Arteta describing the player as “outstanding”.

According to reports down south and the likes of talkSPORT host Jim White the deal for the 22-year-old Brazilian is said to be worth £27m, or €30m.

With Morelos seemingly eager to move on from Rangers and Lille hamstrung by FFP regulations, the megabucks Gabriel deal may well act as a catalyst for the French side moving for the Colombian.

As part of a deal negotiated with UEFA, Lille must break even on player transfer fees during a three-year period in order to register new players for European competition.

After signing the likes of Jonathon David for a reported £27m and with deals for other players in the pipeline, freeing up this money may well prove essential in the club’s hunt for Alfie.

Lille have also sold star striker Victor Osimhen in a deal which some news outlets have reported being worth up to £72.2m [Guardian].

Rangers have previously rejected offers from LILLE for Morelos of up to £16.25m with the Ibrox club holding out for closer to £20m [Daily Mail].

Reports across South America claim that Lille have negotiated an £18m move for the Colombian striker but there doesn’t appear to have been any movement according to reports in Scotland.

As suggested by the likes of the Glasgow Times, the ball is now in Lille’s court and following the transfer of Gabriel fans will look to see if this kicks off a chain reaction at Rangers.
