Northern Irish club Linfield, who are eyeing Rangers’ world record, have moved to within touching distance of the NIFL Premiership title.

Rangers are the most successful club in world football in terms of top-flight league titles won, with 55 to their name.

However, Linfield are only one back on 54 and recently set out an ambitious five-year plan, which, if realised, would see them overtake the Gers.

The Belfast club have been involved in a title race with Glentoran and Coleraine this season but after a period of strong form and a series of recent slip-ups from their rivals, the title now looks almost certainly theirs.

Linfield are now ten points clear of the Glens and eleven ahead of the Bannsiders, with only six matches remaining for all three clubs.

It would take an almighty collapse at this stage for the Blues not to get over the line and if they do, the Gers will have to once again share their record for most league titles won.

Former Rangers Reserves captain Cammy Palmer moved to Windsor Park from Ibrox in January and has played a big role for David Healy’s side over the past few months.

The 20-year-old has played the full 90 minutes of each of Linfield’s last nine Premiership matches, pulling the strings from central midfield whilst also contributing a goal and an assist.

In other news, Rangers could receive a triple player boost for their clash against St Johnstone on Wednesday night, according to a report.
