Clement’s mission impossible as he takes charge of Rangers

Philippe Clement has impressed on camera after his appointment as Rangers manager, a presence that appears to be calm and measured.

Gone are the soundbites and hyperbole of Michael Beale and, instead, we have an individual who has the experience needed to know what to say and how to say it.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Philippe Clement clearly has a plan but hasn’t promised Rangers fans the world on day one.

Philippe Clement reveals Rangers philosophy

The difference between the Belgian and former boss Beale is that he can point to a philosophy and style of play given how long he has been a manager for.

He can also point to the trophies on his CV.

When asked what changes he needs to make on Sky Sports, Philippe Clement provided the sort of answer that Rangers fans would want to hear:

“If you make major changes directly you make people more nervous than they are already.

“So, we need to do things step by step.

“If I want to implement all my football philosophies in five days, it is impossible. Not here and also not at other clubs before either.

“At the end, it is always the results of a strong team scoring a lot of goals, and playing attractive dominant football. They are the things people want to see here so I know we will get there.

“I see the potential in the players who are here. I have confidence in that and it’s about putting the confidence in the players and step by step growing together.”

Philippe Clement is right, Rangers won’t go from struggling to create chances to free-flowing football overnight.

He clearly has a plan and wants to play aggressive, attacking football, but knows that it is a process.

Compare this to when Beale first came back and almost insinuated that everything had been Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s fault and that all he had to do was “take the handbrake off”.

Clement’s pedigree will buy him some time but he has balance implementing an improved style of play whilst continuing to win games of football.

Sounds easy, doesn’t it?
