Clement impressed with Rangers attacker in training this week

Rangers boss Philippe Clement has admitted seeing encouraging things from striker Danilo in training over recent days.

Rangers were in action once again this evening as Europa League action took centre stage.

The Gers claimed a 0-0 draw away at Sparta Prague but had to withstand some heavy pressure at times.

Rangers grew into the game and could have won it in the second half with a few decent chances going begging.

One of those chances fell to Danilo, who rattled the woodwork after coming on as a second-half substitute.

The Brazilian exchanged passes with Scott Wright before smashing his effort off the bar.

That would have been a welcome moment for Danilo, who has been out of action of late after a nasty facial injury.

It didn’t quite happen for Danilo in Prague but new boss Philippe Clement is seeing encouraging signs.

Clement has told Rangers Review that he is aware of Danilo having seen him in action for former clubs Ajax and Feyenoord.

The Belgian added that Danilo has ‘killer capacities’ inside the penalty area, and has been showing ‘bright things’ in training this week, which is why he was given a chance from the bench.

“I didn’t know him really long, I saw him at Ajax and Feyenoord,” said Clement. “He has killer capacities in the box, he’s a goalscorer, I want to make him a striker who works hard not only thinking about scoring goals because that’s a part we need, he has the individual actions to make a difference.”

“That’s what we expect not only to score goals but also to do a job for the team. He’s shown bright things the last couple of days that’s why he got minutes, with a good save otherwise it was a brilliant way to end,” he added.

My view: Danilo can make a huge impact this season

Danilo was a major investment for Michael Beale as Rangers agreed a deal worth up to £6million.

The results so far have been mixed; Danilo has managed three goals in 12 outings for Rangers.

There is clearly talent in Danilo though and Clement appears to be liking what he is seeing.

Cyriel Dessers isn’t exactly in great form whilst Abdallah Sima and Sam Lammers aren’t playing as strikers right now.

There is a real opportunity for Danilo to kick on and make the striking position his own – and start to repay that hefty transfer fee.
