Clarke bites back at Gerrard ahead of Rangers trip to Kilmarnock

Ahead of Rangers’s trip to Rugby Park on Saturday, Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke spoke out about Steven Gerrard, as quoted by BBC Sport.
Earlier in the week, Clarke got involved in the debate about the four penalties awarded to Rangers last weekend, against St Mirren.

Gerrard was not happy.
He responded during a press conference, by saying the matter had nothing to do with Kilmarnock or their manager, before questioning the class of the comments.

One might have thought that when the SFA rightly took no action against Defoe, the matter was resolved.
Apparently not.

Clarke ‘disappointed’ in Gerrard

“I’m a little disappointed, obviously, that Steven came back more personal than I had made the original comment” he said, via BBC Sport.
“I made a wide-ranging amount of comments on consistency and I’ve been consistent in talking about consistency since August.”
“If in asking for that consistency I have to upset a fellow manager or another club then that’s what I have to do because that’s my job. Why Steven chose to come back personal, I’m not too sure.”

Frankly, this is pretty ridiculous stuff from Clarke.

It was clear for all to see that while no names were mentioned, he had initially been referring to Defoe.
Now, he’s on his high horse.
He makes reference to the ‘media witch hunt’ for Rangers-bound Jordan Jones. Yet, his was a case of blatant diving. The Defoe incident was totally different.

These comments appear to be a combination of naivety and stubbornness.
You can’t stick your oar into another club’s business and not expect to get anything back.
If you give it out, you have to be able to take it.
