Rangers fans have been gunning for ex-Celtic striker and Parkhead cheerleader Chris Sutton for a column the striker penned about the club’s finances [Daily Record].

Influencers from across Rangers media have been quick to bite back at “relentless” reporting aimed at Rangers and their finances in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

Given the Ibrox club’s previous financial troubles, Rangers are being coy over their next step with pundits like Sutton waiting in the wings to pass judgment.

Like every other club, Rangers have admitted they will feel the impact of the domestic league shutdown but have assured supporters that securing necessary investment for the season is “well advanced”.

Yet, just as Celtic announce they are set to let not-playing staff go on government furlough, Sutton releases a distasteful and sarcastic column about Rangers’ finances.

In it, he has a go at the club for not supplying the likes of himself and other like-minded pundits/journalists with the finer details of the club’s financial situation.

Sutton also lambasts Rangers for their plans to launch season ticket renewals in the coming weeks, despite Celtic, Hibs and Aberdeen doing the same over the last month.

Many Gers fans believe the comments of Sutton are aimed at deflecting from Celtic’s own news about furloughing staff.

Stories about the financials of the Ibrox club sell and it is in the interests of Sutton et al to suggest that there is a level of insecurity in the background of the club.

Club insiders have repeatedly told fans to “ignore the narrative” [Four Lads] being set but it hasn’t stopped some Rangers fans responding to Chris Sutton on Twitter.

Pointing to hypocritical comments, the article’s timing and the fact Sutton is anything but a financial expert having been declared bankrupt himself, Rangers fans have laughed off the column:
