Chris Sutton once again brings up Rangers in a conversation that entirely involves his former side Celtic.

The Gers and the Hoops are once again battling it out for the SPFL title, but are joined by a third team this season.

Hearts are the surprise leaders in the Scottish Premiership table after 25 games, but the Ibrox outfit are just three points behind them.

Chris Sutton compares Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s signing to Aaron Ramsey’s at Rangers

Sutton has reacted to Celtic announcing the signing of former Arsenal and Liverpool attacking midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Hoops strengthened in the January transfer window, but their biggest-name arrival was the former England international.

While Sutton admitted that he has been an “outstanding” player, he used the opportunity to take a dig at rivals Rangers.

In his view, the deal is similar to Ramsey moving to Rangers back in January 2022.

He moved to Ibrox on loan until the end of the season, scoring two goals in the league, including one against Celtic.

However, the most notable moment of his time as a Light Blues player was when he missed a penalty in the final of the UEFA Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt in the shootout.

Comparing the two deals, Sutton told the Daily Record: “Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is another one with question marks.

“He’s been an outstanding player over the years and it could be an inspired signing. But it’s a big if, given he’s not played for so long.

“There have been plenty of big names who have come to Scotland late in their career and not cut it.

“I remember when Juninho joined Celtic and he was a shadow of the player who lit up the Premier League with Middlesbrough.

“There’s been countless others. You only have to look across the city at a recent one, with Aaron Ramsey’s underwhelming spell at Rangers.”

What went wrong for Ramsey at Ibrox?

Ramsey severely lacked match sharpness before and during his time at Rangers, and that restricted him to a handful of league appearances.

Signed to be an impact player who could hit the ground running, the former Wales international never played the full 90 minutes in a game.

He also struggled to be an important voice behind the scenes and failed to use his previous successes as a tool to motivate his players.

Gers fans will be hoping that Oxlade-Chamberlain also fails to live up to the hype and does not have a positive impact at Celtic.
