Callum McGregor and Brendan Rodgers both went earlier with the snide comments this season and the latest Celtic personality will also now be regretting how quick they piled into Rangers defeat by Motherwell.

Chris Sutton is never one to hold is opinion be it on screen or online but, he will maybe be regretting taking to X after Gers boss Philippe Clement suffered his first defeat to a team other than Celtic.

Rangers fans were able to breathe a sigh of relief after a dismal defeat at Ibrox, however, Sutton didn’t get off quite as lightly.

Chris Sutton’s Rangers jibe backfires – quickly

The Sky Sports pundit didn’t take his side losing to Hearts at all well.

He chose to focus on the performance of the officials rather than the deficiencies of his own team

“Funny old title race over the weekend. Well done to HeartsYang red card I really don’t like but understand why it was given. Iwata handball is so harsh but would have been awarded because of the position of his arm but he was nudged but can’t say it’s a surprise in Scotland…”

The definition of irony.

Sutton makes no reference to the incredibly soft penalty that Celtic were awarded when both sides had XI players.

The red card was an easy one and one that Don Robertson should have seen at full speed.

Yang had his foot above the height of his own head, any player doing that knows that they are running the risk of a red card.

You can guarantee if a Rangers player had their foot that high in an Old Firm derby, he’d be screaming for a sending off.

At full-time on Saturday, Sutton was posting the eyes emoji, assuming that 24 hours later, his team would be top of the Scottish Premiership.

Spoiler alert – they weren’t.

Much to the joy of Rangers fans everywhere.
