Chris Sutton has discussed the ego of Rangers manager Danny Rohl as he faces a must-win game against Celtic.

Rohl got involved in the media theatrics ahead of the last Old Firm derby, but his side failed to back it up with the win.

Despite Youssef Chermiti’s brace, Rangers failed to beat Celtic, blowing a two-goal lead as the contest ended 2-2.

Chris Sutton appears ‘shocked’ by Danny Rohl’s interviews

Speaking to the Daily Record, who revealed that Sutton has been “shocked” by what he has seen from Rohl, as he believes that he is letting his ego get the best of him.

The former Hoops striker thinks that the German showed signs of losing his cool before the last Old Firm clash.

In his view, it is important for him to get the right result in the Scottish Cup quarter-final on Sunday, or pressure will mount.

Sutton also believes that Rohl broke the “unwritten rule” as he spoke about the opposition’s team ahead of a match.

He said: “It’s a time for cool heads. Similarly at Ibrox.

“Rohl showed signs of losing his before the Celtic game last week – and it will be interesting to see how he gets on this weekend in the Scottish Cup rematch.

“I was really surprised Rohl got mixed up in talking about Celtic’s team section and European performances before the league match.

“It’s kind of an unwritten rule in football not to talk about oppositions teams like that – especially when it’s Celtic. And it came back to bite him a bit.

“It does look like his ego got away from him a little bit. He should be concentrating on what really matters rather than a silly tit-for-tat. And the last manager you want to engage in a battle of wits is Martin O’Neill.”

What Rangers must do to beat Celtic at Ibrox

Rangers go into the cup game as favourites, and even though they failed to beat Celtic last week, Rohl will expect a better display from his players.

Like last weekend, it is important for the Gers to start well and potentially score an early goal or two to set the tempo of the game.

Then, it will be crucial for them not to sit back and soak in the pressure as they tried doing in the Scottish Premiership.

Even a lucky goal for Celtic completely swings the momentum in their favour and Rangers then play the rest of the game with their backs against the wall.

They have to be assertive and play on the front foot if they are to progress to the semi-final of the Scottish Cup.
