Chris Sutton embarrassingly hypocritical in trolling Rangers rant

For a Celtic fan, it’s strange that Chris Sutton seems to love offering advice to Rangers and their supporters.
The idea that any of us would listen to him seems absurd. For the most part, the former Blackburn striker simply likes to twist the knife.
But in a rant at the BT Sport panel following last night’s televised St. Mirren v Celtic match, he laid into the goings on at Ibrox. And whilst he might speak a decent game, there’s some embarrassing hypocrisy in all of this.

Listen to the bare-faced cheek of it:
“Some of the things that have come out after the game have been slightly concerning,” said Sutton.
“This stuff, Steven Gerrard saying Celtic are playing the victim card. This is a guy on the first day of the season who was complaining about conspiracy theories with referees.”
Between all of the schadenfreude and posturing, let’s look at the facts here. Chris Sutton inspired a refereeing witch hunt because he couldn’t handle Rangers beating Celtic in December.
The former Celtic striker sensationally claimed that a Masonic conspiracy was at play in the Ibrox victory. He was that seething. The reality is, we played them off the park. He takes defeat and victory with all the grace of a smarmy faced schoolkid who thinks he owns the ball in the playground.
He even claimed Dunfermline were at it when we beat them 6-1 to clinch our 50th title on the final day in 2003.

It just comes across as bitter and hypocritical. He’s desperately trying to give the allure of someone who is serious but is so contradictory when the shoe’s on the other foot.

How can you take the man seriously as a pundit? His eyes actually light up with furious joy when he gets the chance to criticise Rangers – it’s insane. He’s two steps away from frothing at the mouth.
Perhaps that final day victory at Ibrox almost 20 years ago still rankles with the striker?
