If there was any doubt that new Scotland international and on-fire Dundee United forward Lawrence Shankland was a Rangers fan before, these tweets prove there certainly won’t be now.
The 15-goal Arabs striker capped a solid start to the season with a couple of Scotland caps and even managed a maiden goal as the nation routinely dismantled San Marino 6-0.
And after the Tartan Army found a new hero, cheeky Rangers fans dug up some of Shankland’s previous tweets to milk where his club loyalties lie.

The tweets have since been deleted but there hasn’t been any official suggestion from Shankland or any representatives as to why.
Some fans believe the fact he plays for Dundee United – a club and fanbase which is not exactly on good terms with their Rangers’ equivalents – may have something to do with it.
It’s probably more likely Shankland couldn’t really be bothered with any of the attention or grief pulling up the tweets might bring. That said, it’s not like he’s said anything untoward.
But the historic tweets have once again generated a conversation over the talented 23-year-old’s future, having previously been linked with a move to his boyhood heroes in the past.
Shankland has been routinely linked with Rangers after a high-scoring spell with Ayr United last season and was linked to both sides of the Old Firm as recently as last month [Daily Record].

Scoring on the international stage will do his chances of earning a move to a much bigger club than Dundee United no harm.
Those tweets are perhaps a not-so-subtle hint as to which club he’d rather it would be!
