Philippe Clement wasn’t willing to give USG a sniff as Rangers prepare to welcome the Belgians in the Europa League.
Rangers have an outside chance of reaching the top-eight in the Europa League but will need to overcome USG at Ibrox to stand any chance.
The Gers will need all the help they can get if they’re to overcome a form USG side who’re certainly brimming with confidence heading into the game.
But after the likes of John Souttar and Vaclav Cerny were spotted in Rangers training, Philippe Clement is giving little away.
Rangers manager coy on Europa League injuries
”It’s a decisive game now,” Clement told the press ahead of the clash. “Last game in this group phase.
“So I don’t want to give my Belgian friends all the tools. They need to work also a little bit like me.
“I know they will not give me all the tools also before the game.
“So you guys saw some things in the training that some guys were back and some guys were doing individual work and the rest we will see tomorrow.”
Philippe Clement fires £60m USG scouting warning
Philippe Clement has warned his Rangers team that USG are a ‘very hard team’ to beat.
The Rangers manager knows that his side will be up against it when the Belgians come to town with USG also looking to guarantee their progression to the Europa League playoff.
Branding USG a ‘very physical team’ the Rangers manager praised the team’s old-school two striker style and commented on their successful recent transfer business.
The Belgians have close links to Premier League Brighton and have managed to unearth a number of top talents who’ve gone on to bigger and better things.
It comes with former USG striker Victor Boniface being linked with a €60m (£50m) move to Saudi Arabia.
“Yeah, it’s a tough team to beat,” said Clement. It’s a very physical team.
“They play on the front foot. They play always with two strikers, one very creative guy in behind. They play with wing-backs who are very offensive.
“They’re very fast in transitions, really good on set-pieces.
“They are very direct in their play also, but they can keep also the ball into the midfield. So there are a lot of good qualities there. What they’ve improved in Europe also.
“They struggled in the beginning of the season. New coach, a lot of new players. So I don’t know how the situation is now, but they were associated with Brighton also in their recruitment.
“The last couple of years, they found a lot of players with a low budget but who were afterwards really good.
“They sold a lot of players like (Victor) Boniface I read this week he can go for €60m (£50m) to Saudi Arabia.
“(Dennis) Undav also, strikers like that. Now again, every year they sell these players and they find new ones again.
“Now again, they have very good attacking players and a very robust defence and midfield, hard-working team. So it’s a very hard team to beat.”
