Rangers have been urged to target Brighton and Hove Albion’s David Weir as a replacement for Ross Wilson.
Pundit Charlie Nicholas believes Weir is the absolute right man for the Ibrox job.
Wilson left Rangers last week as a whirlwind move to Nottingham Forest materialised.
Rangers are now lacking a sporting director and whilst Michael Beale has stated that he will take on some of the workload, a replacement is needed.
Nicholas has been quoted by the Daily Record as saying that he thinks Brighton’s Weir is the right man for Rangers.
Former Rangers defender Weir currently serves as the technical director at Premier League club Brighton.
Luring him to Ibrox won’t be easy but Nicholas believes going for Weir is a ‘no brainer’.
“Who should Gers turn to when looking for Wilson’s replacement? The likes of Christian Nerlinger has been linked with the vacancy but, for me, the standout candidate is David Weir,” said Nicholas. “He has been at Rangers as both a player and assistant manager to Mark Warburton, so he knows what the club is all about. If Weir can be lured from Brighton – where he has been technical director for a year – it would be a no-brainer.”
“The 52-year-old is experienced in this field and will be well aware of where Rangers need to get to. The Ibrox board need to make an appointment quickly,” he added.

David Weir would be an exciting Rangers choice
Few contenders for the Ibrox job would really have the knowledge of Rangers that Weir possesses.
Weir joined Rangers as a player back in 2007, spending five years at the club having arrived from Everton.
Weir won three league titles, two Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups whilst even reaching the Europa League final.
Weir even had a spell as Rangers assistant manager, serving as Mark Warburton’s number two at Ibrox.
The former defender knows what success looks like for Rangers and certainly understands the expectations levels of Gers fans.
This wouldn’t be an appointment based on nostalgia though; Weir is playing a vital role in a Brighton setup that many envy.
The Seagulls have recruited incredibly over the years, securing the likes of Kaoru Mitoma, Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister and more.
Weir will have learned so much just from being in that Brighton setup and should have knowledge of various markets.
Rangers fans will want somebody who understands the club and somebody who can unearth some gems in the transfer market; Weir may well tick both boxes.
Luring Weir away from a Premier League job won’t be easy but Rangers should at least ask the question as they seek a replacement for Wilson.
