Rangers fans may be amongst the most loyal and passionate in the world, but some of the club’s supporters just can’t seem to help themselves.
After Liverpool’s stunning 4-0 win over Barcelona on Tuesday night, Reds’ fans quite rightly celebrated. Amongst the millions around the world, there are plenty at Ibrox.
Whilst everyone’s allegiances to the blue of Rangers in the staff and playing squad is evident, so many of those at Rangers are also Liverpool supporters. Including famously our manager.
Yet, after Liverpool’s win on Tuesday night, some Rangers fans sent complaints to staff for using the hashtag #YNWA or mentioning the song. So much so that posts were altered or deleted.
Why? Because rivals Celtic sing it. What must any of those affected think of this partisan nonsense?
It’s tedious, embarrassing stuff and anyone genuinely giving our Liverpool contingent a hard time for singing it, or quoting it, should be ashamed.
It is the Liverpool anthem. It is not categorically a Celtic song, even if they sing it. It’s also a pop song from the 60s by Gerry & the Pacemakers, not a political statement.
For all the Liverpool fans who’re connected to Rangers, this braindead behaviour stands as an embarrassment.
