A guest host of CelticTV might have a bit of explaining to do to Parkhead supporters after he congratulated Rangers only days before being announced with the channel.
Established British football broadcast journalist Matt Smith – who currently works with BT Sport – will host CelticTV’s coverage of the “Glasgow Derby” this weekend.
We are delighted to announce that Matt Smith will be joining us to host this weekend’s coverage of the Glasgow Derby on the @CelticFCPass.
We look forward to welcoming Matt to Celtic Park and once again we are urging all Celtic supporters to #StaySafe and #StayHome for the game.

They’re really pushing this Glasgow Derby thing, aren’t they? Maybe they’re upset by something.
Smith is of course one of the most renowned faces in British sport and for Celtic supporters this will represent something of a coup ahead of the weekend’s coverage.
WAYNE ROONEY TO EVERTON IS A JOKE.
This salty pandering also appears to have worked on Smith who described the Old Firm derby as the Glasgow Derby on Twitter after announcing the move.
Very much looking forward to another Glasgow Derby. https://t.co/jU1tERJahj

But before they get too cosy with the broadcaster, only a few days ago Matt Smith was saluting Stevie G and Rangers in their rampant title-winning campaign.
Congrats to SG & Rangers. If a week is a long time in football, 10 years must feel like a lifetime.

Maybe Smith was just trying to troll the Rangers supporters with the Glasgow Derby line but it’s somewhat pandering and unbecoming of a journalist many have respect for.
Rangers of course have used Clive Tyldesley as commentator throughout the season and the English broadcaster refused to get involved in Old Firm politics [Herald].
Let’s hope Smith and his cohorts at CelticTV are belatedly trying to explain a rampant Rangers ridiculing their rivals in this weekend’s Old Firm dead rubber.
Ahead of the match, the Rangers Ultras the Union Bears and their Green Brigade counterparts appear to be in rare agreement over tactics used by police in the run up.
