Former Celtic nemesis Scott Brown could be in for a return to Rangers as Ayr United manager in the Scottish Cup.
The Gers have drawn an Ibrox clash with the Honest Men in the fifth round of the competition after the completion of the fourth round of Scottish Cup over the weekend.
Rangers overcame Dumbarton 4-1 to reach this stage of the competition, with currently managerless Ayr United defeating Kelty Hearts to earn their trip to Ibrox.
Now, reports are suggesting that ex-Celtic midfielder Scott Brown is being eyed by the Championship side to take over from Lee Bullen at Somerset Park.
Scott Brown to take over at Ayr United?
According to the Daily Mail, Ayr United have launched a move to make Scott Brown their new manager after the ex-Celtic captain was sacked by Fleetwood Town.
Should a deal to secure the ex-Aberdeen star come to fruition it means Brown would be in line to lead to Ayr United at Ibrox in early February.
It would be Scott Brown’s first clash against Rangers as a manager and add an extra dynamic to the Scottish Cup clash which is sure to generate headlines.
As things stand nothing is said and done but it’s certainly one to watch as Rangers look to mount a successful treble bid this season.
Scottish Cup Rangers return for former rival
Scott Brown needs no introduction to Rangers supporters and should the ex-Celtic star take the gig at Ayr United a potential Scottish Cup grudge match lies in wait.
Rangers go into the clash overwhelming favourites having been drawn on home soil and with Ayr United languishing in 9th in the Scottish second flight.

There are other names who have been mentioned in the running such as Charlie Mulgrew or Gary Bowyer but it’s Scott Brown who will most be of interest to Rangers fans.
No harm to Ayr United, but you’ll forgive Rangers fans for relishing in the opportunity to land their former Celtic rival a blow at such an early stage of his management career.
