Celtic fans in tragic meltdown as Rangers boss officially recognised

Celtic fans haven’t had much to cheer about this season and a campaign of bitter disappointment was summed up by the reaction to Rangers manager Steven Gerrard’s most recent commendation.

The Ibrox gaffer was named the Football Writers’ Manager of the Year after guiding the Gers to 55 and stopping the apparently unstoppable “10IAR”.

Gerrard was remarkably humble in receiving the award and the manager to took to Instagram to announce he would “cherish” it in an emotional post.

The Gers gaffer also paid tribute to Scotland boss Steve Clarke, St Johnstone manager Calum Davidson and Livingston manager Davie Martindale as the fellow nominees for the award.

Celtic fans – fully invested in St Johnstone now after the knocked Rangers out the Scottish Cup – had planted their flag in camp Davidson as the Saints boss guides his side to a second cup final.

Davidson could well wind up winning a double with the Perthshire club in what would be a remarkable achievement.

But we’re not convinced that’s why so many salty Celtic fans had backed Davidson or why they’re so upset he didn’t win the award.

The final small victory that they were hoping for this season passed by without a whimper and there are plenty of Celtic supporters in meltdown over Gerrard being handed the award.

Here’s a selection of the best from Twitter as Celtic supporters struggle to accept the raw, undiluted domination Rangers have experienced this season:

Good to know that 55 and the collapse of the fabled Ten isn’t getting to these guys one bit and we imagine they’re simply moaning about this to uphold the integrity of the sport. Good on them.

Rangers fans had their own things to say about Gerrard getting the award as the support applauded the man who secured 55.
