Celtic are reportedly set to drop their interest in Kilmarnock full-back Greg Taylor, with the Rugby Park club’s £3m asking price said to be too high for the Parkhead club.
Celtic have been routinely linked to Taylor ever since the departure of Kieran Tierney, but some Rangers fans believe he would be a good shout for the Ibrox club in this position.
Rangers do have troubles in the left-back berth – but could we really move to Taylor to solve them?
The 21-year-old is certainly a talented wing-back and knows the Scottish Premiership very well. He still has plenty of room to grow and there are no doubts Taylor could develop into a top player.
But right now £3m does seem like a considerable outlay for the player – especially when you are looking for results and consistency right now.
Rangers would surely also need to shift Croatian international full-back Borna Barisic to be in with any chance of securing Taylor.
Signed for £1.5m from NK Osijek last summer, Barisic has struggled to settle in Scotland. There is clearly a player in Barisic but there also appears a real issue with confidence.
That stunning free-kick strike which earned Rangers three points against St. Mirren would’ve done him a world of good. Let’s hope it’s a turning point.
In the same position, Gerrard seems to trust the unorthodox Jon Flanagan in the bigger matches, whilst Andy Halliday can also play in the berth.
As for any potential move for Taylor – who is a boyhood Rangers fan [Daily Record] – you can’t see it in this window.
