Celebrations over Rangers draw highlights tinpot nature of Aberdeen fans

As Rangers stumbled to a disappointing 0-0 draw with Aberdeen, it’s hard to tell what’s worse between the dropped points or having to endure the Dons fans’ tinpot celebrations at the final whistle.

OK, it’s very much the dropped points.

And we can’t level too much criticism of Aberdeen as a side. We knew they were coming to frustrate and to their credit, when they got the opportunity, they did play a bit against us.

But the fact that their fans celebrate anything against us like a victory doesn’t exactly reflect too well on a club who appear to lack any ambition beyond grabbing something against Rangers.

It’s not the first time we’ve highlighted this and probably won’t be the last.

Derek McInnes’ side is a frustrating opponent for us and we continuously struggle in matches against them.

Save the 5-0 Ibrox hammering back at the start of the season, these ties have been tough, tight contests under the stewardship of Steven Gerrard.

As it stands the Ibrox boss has bested McInnes thrice, drawn four times and lost three times to the Dons in 10 matches against them.

We have two physical, raucous derbies in this division whilst our rivals have one and if we’re going to challenge for the title this year, or the next, we need to figure out how to raise our game in both of them.

A trip to Pittodrie after the split awaits, where anything but a win will surely dampen our title hopes even further than this one did.

If we’re still in a title race by then, and that’s a big IF, Aberdeen’s fans will forget their woeful record in Europe, their dry, uninspiring brand of football and their decades of failure, if it means getting a result in that match stops us lifting 55.

As much as this is their right as a support, and whilst we lick our wounds after more dropped points, spare a thought for the Dons fans.

Is a 0-0 draw at Ibrox seriously it for them?
